Alex Vaughan - Leeds

I am passionate about Real Bread and all things good food and I love to teach other people how to make delicious bread at home. 

I have run a microbakery selling bread in my neighborhood and have been teaching people how to make their own bread for over over two years now.

I have won Bronze wards for my bread at the Tiptree World Bread awards in the category of home baker in 2016 and 2017 and I am keen in showing you how to make your own bread!

You will be baking in a domestic oven similar to what you have at home, and shown how to make the most of it to fit bread making around modern life.

You can chose whether you want to learn to bake with Baker's Yeast or Sourdough techniques and I am always happy to discuss tailoring a workshop to your specific needs (to a minimum of 4 students). Just get in touch!

  • Everyday bread and sweet treats

    Bread making is really easy and fun and there's nothing more rewarding than taking a freshly baked loaf from the oven and sharing it with family and friends!

    In this course you will learn to bake delicious loaves and to fit this into a busy life. We will talk ingredients, kneading, proofing and shaping.

    Bakes on the day will include a white loaf, a fougasse, bread rolls, soda bread and sweet buns.

    There will be a light tea and refreshments, allowing time to chat. Please bring an apron and a bag to take home all the bread you have made.

    Notes will be provided with step by step recipes from the day which you can replicate at home.

    Suitable for ages 16+.

    Workshop takes place at Basement 2-3, Berking Avenue, Leeds, LS9 9LF.

    CHANGE/CANCELLATION POLICY: If you want to change or cancel a full two weeks before your course you can do so with an administrative fee of £15. There are no changes or cancellations within two weeks. We are sorry to be so draconian, but we are a small business and hope you understand.

  • Yeasted breads - Sourdough and Baker's yeast

    Join us to learn all about the different types of yeast you can use for making bread at home, with an award winning homebaker!

    Over the course of the workshop we will discuss the differences between baking with baker's yeast or sourdough process, we will make a dough using each type of yeast and you get to take home all the bread you bake on the day, your own sourdough culture and notes from the day.

    The course was developed as an introduction to baking and to address all the questions that a newby baker might have. We will have plenty of time to go through notes over a light lunch whilst our bread is baking.

    Suitable for ages 16+.
