The Crow’s Rest Bakehouse is a microbakery in Camberwell, passionate about Real Bread and all things good food. Alex bakes artisan loaves once a week and Nick delivers it locally on his bike. Their balcony plays resting grounds to local crows who like to perch there and look out as the day goes by.

  • Introduction to Baker's Yeast baking

    Bread making is really easy and fun and there's nothing more rewarding than taking a freshly baked loaf from the oven and sharing it with family and friends! In this course I will show you how accessible it is to bake delicious loaves and to fit this into a busy life. We will talk ingredients, kneading, proofing and shaping. There will be a light supper and refreshments, allowing time to chat. Please bring an apron and a bag to take home all the bread you have made. Notes will be provided with step by step recipes from the day which you can replicate at home. The course will run between 10am-16pm from my home in Camberwell, SE5. CHANGE/CANCELLATION POLICY: If you want to change or cancel a full two weeks before your course you can do so with an administrative fee of £15. There are no changes or cancellations within two weeks. We are sorry to be so draconian, but we are a small business and hope you understand. If you don't see a class time that suits you, email me and I can arrange a more suitable date and time.

  • Introduction to Sourdough

    Join me a for no-nonsense introduction to the world of Sourdough baking and learn how to fit baking delicious, healthy and nutritious bread around a busy life! It was never more true about any type of bread than it is for sourdough that "bread can take a lot of time but it is its time, not yours". You will learn how to make and keep a sourdough starter and different ways to develop your bread dough. We will bake a variety of sourdough bread and learn about different types of flour and how they behave. A lunch will be served where we will taste some of the bread baked and at the end of the day you will take home all the bread you made, a sourdough culture and notes for the day. The class is run with small numbers so you get a lot of time for any questions you might have during the day. The course will run between 10am-16pm from my home in Camberwell, SE5.
