  • Basic bread course

    Come and learn how to bake bread in my kitchen in a small friendly class. During our time together, we will have fun baking some white or wholemeal loaves, a rye bread, rolls, sodabread and focaccia to take home. We will sample our fresh bread over a meal and have a chance to chat. The classes will be held close to Mortlake station (25 minutes from Waterloo), parking is easy, just ask for a visitors display when you arrive.   • sourdough class

    Come and learn how to bake sourdough in my kitchen in a small friendly class. During the 6 hours together, you will learn how to make and use a sourdough starter. We will have fun baking some sourdough white, malted or wholemeal loaves, a rye sourdough, rolls or sourdough ciabatta to take home. We will sample our fresh bread over lunch and have a chance to chat. The classes will be held close to Mortlake station (25 minutes from Waterloo), parking is easy, just ask for a visitors display when you arrive.   • Bagel class

    Do you know your bublik from your ka'ak from your Montreal bagel? You will by the time we have baked all these in the bagel class! We will mix, knead, prove and bake, learn about the principles of bread-making and have time to chat over a delicious lunch. You will go home with a small mountain of bread with holes in the middle as well as recipes and notes to help you make them again in your own kitchen.

  • Best Rye bread

    Many people have tried to bake with rye but with little success. “Heavy”, “Leaden”, “Dense” are the usual complaints. When expertly handled, it does rise properly, it’s light and delicious and can have a nice, open crumb. In this four and a half hour small friendly class you will make 100% rye yeasted and sourdough bread, explore the different results you get mixing rye with wheat and the addition of spices, grain and fruit. We will have time to chat over lunch and sample home made bread. You will go home with lots of bread, notes from the day and the confidence to tackle making your own.
