'Liz is not only a wonderful teacher, she is also a warm and friendly host who provides all the guidance necessary to recreate it all in the comfort of your own kitchen. the classes are small, which means you get far more for your money than other available courses. This class is a must for all who want to learn the art of breadmaking and in particular sourdough. I can not recommend this course enoughand will definitely be going back to another of Liz's classes. "Wow! Wow! Wow!. Liz’s approach is simply inspiring. I have ‘baked’ loads before or so I thought but I clearly hadn’t joined the dots. I have tons of bread books and never quite managed to produce the same as I’d seen. After this small and cosy class-there were four of us in the class- with Ma Baker however, everything came together. Liz breaks down each step and method clearly and accessibly and her patience and calm manner is engaging. Thanks to the fantastic tuition I was able to make beautiful bread that I had struggled to achieve through books alone. A course with Ma Baker is sure to teach you lots of new skills and importantly get you making great bakes from scratch. " Gill - 2016

  • Introduction to Sourdough

Sourdough, the bread that has been made for centuries. Just flour, water. salt and time. But what is a starter ? How do you manage it ? How can I fit it in around a busy life ? Why is sourdough better for me ? Lots of questions that will all be answered in this course.

I will take you through ingredients, processes and shaping techniques. We will make about 6 different breads, have morning tea, a delicious lunch, and you’ll have all the recipes, a pot of my starter and a big bag of delicious bread, that you have made yourself, to take home.

“Had a brilliant day with Liz Wilson aka Ma Baker learning to make sour dough breads. I have been a life long fan of really good sour dough bread and have had periods of making it myself over the years but with mixed results. Liz has such a warm and friendly manner and a common sense approach to teaching the fundamentals of bread making that by the end of what was a fun and very informative day I went home really confident that I will be able to make great sour dough for ever more. Liz really is a great teacher and I couldn’t believe how much she managed to pack into a 6 hour course. It was totally hands on so we all got to make our own breads, 5 in total, were very well fed with delicious home bakes and took an impressive amount of our own breads home with us. Liz’s courses are small - only 4 people on each course which really adds to their appeal as there is lots of individual attention given and time to have any questions answered. I went on the course with a friend and we loved it so much we immediately booked onto another of Ma Baker’s courses.” Rebecca - December 2016

  • Artisan Bread Course

This class is all about adding ingredients to your breads. We will make a fruit and nut loaf, a delicious blue cheese soda bread, bake a honey sweetened brioche and shape a fougasse. All classes are small, hands on and in my home kitchen. The class includes morning tea, lunch , all recipes and a big bag of bread to take home.

"Learning with Liz makes you want to go home and start kneading straight away!! She makes learning how to bake bread fun and informative. I picked up a number of very useful tips from her and was so glad to be able to improve on my kneading technique. Liz holds a small class of up to 4 people, which means that you really get that individual attention and can have all your questions answered over a cup of tea and homemade biscuits. Liz does an excellent job at breaking down the process into easy to understand steps and explains the background and rationale to each step…which really puts the whole bread making mystery into context. She even throws a little surprise piece of trivia in every so often! We got to bring our breads home much to the delight of my very appreciative husband, and I’ve now signed up for another of Liz’s class…the Sourdough bread baking lesson. I can’t wait!! " Sian. • Italian Breads

Learn how to make some delicious Italian Breads with an award winning baker. Try your hand at Focaccia, Ciabatta and two different types of Grissini.

Morning tea, bread tastings, recipes and lots of bread to take home are all included.

"My girlfriend and I spent half a day learning to make Italian bread with Liz Wilson, aka Ma Baker, and it was quite simply the most fun cooking lesson I’ve ever had. What separates this course from others is the fact that it takes place in Liz’s own kitchen, in her own home. Classes are limited to a maximum of four participants, and the end result is a relaxed and extremely welcoming environment. Liz herself is a wonderful teacher and a really nice person to be around, and while she crams a huge amount of knowledge into the time you spend with her (four separate recipes and endless know-how), it always feels like you’re just hanging out with a friend. The mixing, kneading and baking itself is all very enjoyable, and the bread itself is nothing short of heavenly. At the end of the session you’ll take home everything you’ve made (bring a large bag), but more importantly you’ll be dead eager to take another crack at the recipes in your own kitchen. One week on from the lesson, I’ve already baked a focaccia from scratch, and I’ll be doing more baking in the next few days. If a half-shaved ape such as myself can do this, anyone can. I really can’t recommend this course enough. Thanks so much, Liz - we both had an amazing time !" **Neon - May 2016**
