Having run The Crow’s Rest Bakehouse for two years whilst living in London, and in parallel with office work, Alexandra Vaughan saw her move to Wakefield in 2018 as an opportunity to fully commit to her dream of being a full-time baker. She reopened her microbakery in Agbrigg in October of that year and got a part-time job at a local bakery, Love Bread, as lead baker. Her position at Love bread really helped to cement her trust in her skills and in her ability to produce delicious bread consistently.
Following the closure of Love Bread earlier this year, Alexandra successfully ran a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to buy a semi-professional bread oven which, in turn, has propelled her to take the step of making The Crow’s Rest Bakehouse her sole job.
With a bread offer that is always changing, Alexandra sells her bakes at a pop-up stall on Mondays, from 4pm, at Wakefield Westgate train station, and bakes to order for customers who collect from her home on Thursdays. She also supplies a couple of local restaurants, so next time you are eating out in Wakefield you might actually be trying out her bread!
