Sara Ward - Hen Corner, West London

Sara has been baking bread for her family and friends from her urban smallholding, Hen Corner, for many years.

Since training as a Bread Angel she has opened a Micro Bakery and looks forward to passing on her skills through a series of courses.

  • Bread: Sweet & Savoury

    Bring your pinny and roll up your sleeves, this special course has been designed to help develop your artisan culinary skills as we create beautiful bread, both sweet and savoury, in our London kitchen…

    Sara Ward trained as a Bread Angel with Jane Mason of Virtuous Bread back in 2015 and has more recently completed a Five Day Intensive Bread course and further Croissant & Viennoiserie training with Richard Bertinet at his Cookery School in Bath.

    You will be welcomed to Hen Corner with fresh coffee and home made treats. Then, after an introduction to our time together, you will have opportunity to stroll around the garden visiting the chickens and bees, then off to the conservatory and kitchen to knead that dough…

    Whilst the aromas of warm baking fills the air, and other batches are proving, we will enjoy a simple lunch to fuel us for the tasks of the afternoon.

      Whilst the strawberry jam is bubbling to the perfect set, we will roll up our sleeves to bake hand-made scones together ready for our afternoon tea.

        Introduction to seasonal harvest and type of preserving

        Preparing and making a batch of jam

        Sterilising jars for preserves

        Making and baking scones

        Afternoon Tea together

    • Baking Together (Family Course)

      Ready, Steady – Bake!

      This course will get you kneading, rolling and mixing as we make four recipes together using a variety of baking skills.

      **All children must be accompanied by a paying participanting adult**

      You will be welcomed with drinks and home-made cookies then after our introductions it’s time to meet the chickens, collect the eggs and roll up our sleeves to bake bread, cookies, pastry and cakes.

          Selecting a personal combination of fruit and nuts and your favourite tipple

          As the fruit is soaking, Sara will show you a couple of simple Christmas craft ideas

          Combine the recipe ingredients, then it’s time to stir up those perfect puddings.

          Each guest goes home with a goodie bag including recipe sheet with cooking instructions, craft items and your pudding in a ceramic bowl ready for the big day.
